The story of Begona Cliff Hotel began with a chance encounter that brought distant cousins together in the beautiful coastal town of Negril, Jamaica and ended with the purchase of an old guest house.

Previously called, Birchrunville Cottage, the old guest house was run by distant cousins for many years. When we saw it, it was in need of significant repair, but held a hidden gem that inspired us.

​

For us, it is the perfect location overlooking the breathtaking Caribbean Sea, perched on the edge of the cliffs in the West End area of Negril. It truly captured our imagination the moment we saw it. So we took the leap of faith, acquired the property, and set our sights on bringing a vision to life.

The hotel is named Begona, after the ship that took Errol Hewitt’s father, from Jamaica to England, in the UK as part of the Windrush generation who moved to the UK. Originally from Negril, Mr Hewitt Senior, loved the town and returned often to see family and friends.

Made from a combination of shipping containers, concrete, local wood and hand cut limestone, Begona Cliff Hotel was developed by Jamaican Architect, Maxine Gibson and built by local contractors and tradesmen.

Build during the Pandemic, the hotel stands as a testament to the power of resilience, creativity, and the determination. We are excited about Begona Cliff Hotel and hope you, as our guest, share in our love of Negril and Jamaica as a whole.
